Naples, FL –September 18, 2025 – Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine has selected Dr. James V. Talano, Director of the SWICFT Institute, as its 2025 Alumnus of the Year for Excellence in Service to Patients. The award recognizes Dr. Talano’s outstanding career in cardiology and his dedication to advancing patient care in Southwest Florida and beyond.
Dr. Talano, a Loyola medical graduate, has spent decades improving heart health through leadership roles at Tulane University, Cleveland Clinic Florida, and now SWICFT Cardiology in Naples. He has authored more than 150 publications, directed major clinical trials, and mentored countless young physicians.
He has also served the Southwest Florida medical community as President of the Collier County Medical Society and as Chairman of the Boards of Community Health Partners and the Southwest Florida Physicians Association and as a member of the Board of the Neighborhood Health Clinic, where he has worked to expand access to quality care and strengthen the voice of independent physicians in the region.
“This honor from my alma mater means so much to me,” said Dr. Talano. “It reflects the values Loyola instilled—compassion, service, and commitment to patients—that have guided my work in Naples and nationally.”
The award will be presented at the Loyola Stritch Alumni Awards Ceremony on September 26, 2025, in Oak Brook, Illinois. Dr. Talano will be recognized alongside other alumni for their contributions to medicine and society.
Locally, Dr. Talano continues to lead efforts to keep advanced cardiovascular care accessible and patient-focused in Collier County, serving both the community and the next generation of healthcare professionals.
