Cardiac PET Imaging
Cardiac PET (positron emission tomography) uses a small amount of radioactive tracer and a specialized camera to evaluate the heart. PET perfusion imaging compares blood flow at rest and during stress and can measure myocardial blood flow and flow reserve. These measurements help your cardiologist assess the heart’s circulation, including its smaller blood vessels.
PET myocardial viability testing is a different protocol that helps distinguish scarred heart muscle from living muscle that may have reduced function. Your cardiologist considers these findings together with your symptoms and other tests when discussing treatment.
